Summary

In January 2019, the Former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu inaugurated the 1000 MW Kurnool Solar Park in Orvakallu mandal and Gadivemula mandal of Kurnool district. The park has been mired in conflict for contravening the procedure to acquire land under the LARR, 2013.
The 3000 acres land which needed to be acquired for the project belonged to patta farmers (120 acres), Endowment Land (land assigned by religious institutions to farmers) (25 acres) and assigned land owners (land transfer to landless poor relating to land ceiling laws) (2,855).
Out of the 800 farmers cultivating on the land, only 180 farmers were given compensation for their land. the district administration refused to give compensation stating that the affected farmers were cultivating on government land. The Kurnool Revenue Divisional Officer asserted that compensation would be paid to farmers whose names were registered in land records. The farmers have been agitating against the same for 2015.
The farmers who lost their land are demanding for compensation or to return of their land. In 2016, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh ordered a status quo for 6 weeks on a writ petition filed by a group of 22 farmers of Gani village in Gadivemula mandal stating that revenue officials forcibly acquired land cultivated by them without giving compensation and without following the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act 2013.
Following which the work resumed and the park was inaugurated in January 2019. In August 2019, local MLA Rambhupal Reddy  met with company officials and asked to compensate the farmers for their land. He said, "many land owners were not given final settlement amount while the company have been making profit, by selling the power".
