Summary

The farmers of Palwal district in Haryana have alleged that they have received low compensation for their land which was acquired by National Highway Authority of India for the Eastern Peripheral Highway which is also known as KPG (KundaliGhaziabadPalwal) expressway. The expressway was conceived in 2004 but the construction started in November 2015 by NHAI. According to media sources, people in 7 to 8 villages in the region are affected. There were series of protests as farmers whose land was to be acquired alleged that they were offered lower compensation compared to other landowners in Palwal district.

In April 2016, reportedly, the Haryana government agreed to the demands of farmers in Rai constituency and increased their compensation. On May 10, 2018, the Supreme court has asked the NHAI to complete the work on its schedule, which was by the end of July 2018 and inagurate the expressway by May 31. Raghav Chandra, the chairman of NHAI has claimed that all the disputes pertaining to the construction has been resolved and he also said that almost 70% of compensation amount has been paid to the farmers. On May 27, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inagurated the expressway. NHAI has claimed that the expressway was completed in a "record time" of 500 days. The conflict is resolved as the demands of the affected communities are accepted by the state government.
