Summary

In 2011, Inland Power Limited signed an MoU with the state government for setting up a thermal power plant near Gola village in Ramgarh district. The first phase started generating power in May 2014. The residents led several protests complaining against environmental degradation due to the plant's operations. They also alleged that they were not provided with jobs that were promised by the company in lieu of their land. On August 30, 2016, two tribal farmers were reportedly killed when the police opened fire on protesters in front of the plant's premises. More than 10 years have passed since the plant was set up, but the demand of farmers for employment is yet to be fulfilled. Meanwhile, Inland Power Limited has planned to expand the capacity of the plant to 2x 63 megawatt. In April 2019, Jharkhand's State level Environment Impanct Assesment Authority extended the validity of environmental clearance for the expansion of the plant.
