Land Conflict Summary

In September 2014, Hero MotoCorp signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Andhra Pradesh through Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation to set up a manufacturing facility in Madannapalem in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.
The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) soon allotted land the land to Hero MotoCorps in Madanapalem village. Ishwariya Orchards, a party to the conflict, learned that the Andhra Pradesh government allotted "Lands in dispute to set up its manufacturing plant". The Tamil Nadu-based Ishwariya Orchards, has claimed ownership and possession of the land allotted, after which they moved to High Court against the state government. Following this, in July 2015, the high court at Hyderabad ordered Hero MotoCorp not to proceed with construction activities over the land allotted to it in southern Andhra Pradesh. The court ordered status quo through interim directives. The petitioner contended that the land was already embroiled in a legal dispute, while the district collector maintained that the land was government land.
Later in August 2015, the high court vacated the stay on the construction work and allowed the company to erect a wall around the land it was allotted. However, the bench decided that a single judge will decide the case in 8 weeks. Despite the judgement, the court ordered the state to pay compensation to Ishwariya Orchards.
In February 2016, the government handed land to Hero MotoCorps to start the construction work. The foundation stone was laid in March 2018 and the production has started, according to a report in March 2020.
